What to do if you don’t know all grammar “rules”

Many of us learned sentence structure and grammar rules in our formal education or professional training. But in reality, there’s no “one right way” to write. The goal is to write in a way that makes it as easy as possible for a reader to understand what you’re communicating.

Consider different approaches to writing along a spectrum. On one end of the spectrum, writing is easier for a reader to understand. And on the other end, writing is more difficult for a reader to comprehend. Across that spectrum is the amount of effort that a reader has to expend to try to grasp what you’re conveying through your writing.
