Cheers to Library Lover’s Day

Most know today as Valentine’s Day. But for those who frequent their local or school library, there’s another reason to celebrate today: Library Lover’s Day! Started in Australia 15 years ago, the holiday is intended to promote passion for books and public services that libraries provide.

One reason to love books is that they provide endless opportunities to read other people’s writing, which, in turn, helps our writing skills. Importantly, reading others’ work exposes you to various writing styles and new vocabulary words.

As the famous American author, William Faulkner said,

“Read, read, read. Read everything  –  trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. You’ll absorb it. Then write. If it’s good, you’ll find out. If it’s not, throw it out of the window.”
